Proverbs 2

Proverbs 2 - The Daily Omer

Proverbs 2 has to be one of my favorite chapters in the book.

It starts out with some massive “if, then” statements.

“If, then” statements make logical folks, like myself, happy. Because we can predict the output when we know the input.

So, my logical friends, let’s see how this goes. My son, my daughter, my child:

👉If you accept my words

👉If you store up my commands within you

👉If you turn your ear to wisdom

👉If you apply your heart to understanding

👉If you call out for insight

👉If you cry aloud for understanding

👉If you look for it as for silver

👉If you search for it as for a hidden treasure

👉If you do these things…

Then…

“You will understand the fear of the Lord

You will find the knowledge of God.”

Sounds like a win, yeah? I’d love to have more of that. And I’d love for my kids to have more of that.

It keeps going in verse 9:

“then you will understand what is right and just and fair — every good path.

For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.

Discretion will protect you and understanding will guard you.

Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men…from the adulterous woman.”

And on and on it goes.

These are the results, the benefits, the promised conclusions on the backend of the “if/then” statements.

Pretty incredible.

If this, then that. Seems like a good exchange to me. What about you?
